Summer Reads Part 3 - a message from the rector- Tuesday, July 22, 2025 Three years ago, in my first Rector’s Forum, I led the parish in a season-long study of a very important book – Seculosity by David Zahl. It analyzed American culture today to highlight ways in which we have tried to fill the ‘God gap’ in our souls, now that religion has been largely jettisoned. We were even fortunate enough to have Zahl himself appear one Sunday morning via Zoom to answer questions about the book. Now he’s done it again. David has just published another ‘must read’ for Christians seeking to grow in their faith and discipleship in a crazy post-Christian culture. It’s called The Big Relief: The Urgency of Grace for a Worn-Out World. For more infomation visit: http://stjohnsmontgomery.org/blog/summer-reads-part-3-a-message-from-the-rector

SACRED GROUND: An Exploration of Race and Faith
Three Dioceses of Northern New England (Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont) are offering an 11-week study exploring race and faith beginning this fall. Sessions will take place on Zoom and are open to Dioceses around the country. There will be at least three circles that will meet at different times and on different days. Previous offerings of Sacred Ground that involve multiple Dioceses have benefited greatly from the regional diversity and the different backgrounds represented. Sacred Ground is a curriculum developed by The Episcopal Church to explore the history of racism in our country as well as the economic and social legacies that continue to underlie divisions among us. To learn more about Sacred Ground, please view the Sacred Ground Invitational video “We Bless You” (22 Minutes) Click here, or for more general information, visit the Sacred Ground website here.
