Water Defeats Rock

Water Defeats Rock

Sunday, May 24, 2026

When is a "Footlong" not a "Footlong". The answer is when it’s a Subway sandwich that is only eleven inches in length. That was the delicacy a teenager named Matt Corby received when he ordered a footlong sub in a Subway in Perth, Australia. But he thought it did it look quite right, so before he bit into it he pulled out a tape measure to confirm that this sandwich was an inch short of the full twelve. He posted a photo of it on Subway Australia's Facebook page and it quickly received over 100,000 "Likes".

Well if you’re Subway how do you respond to this Public Relations disaster? Well, you lightheartedly admit your mistake, poke fun at yourself, and give Matt Corby lots of free sandwiches. You turn it into an opportunity to raise people’s awareness of your excellent restaurant and delicious sandwiches, while also showing that you are humble, have a sense of fun, and a generous heart. What you don’t do is publish this piece of legalese on your Facebook page: "With regards to the size of the bread, 'SUBWAY FOOTLONG' is a registered trademark as a descriptive name for the sub and not intended to be a measurement of length. The length of the bread baked in the restaurant cannot be assured each time as the proofing process may vary slightly each time in the restaurant."

For Such a Time as This

For Such a Time as This

- by Emily Howard

I never imagined I would end up at St. John’s Episcopal Church.

A few years ago, my life and calling looked very different. I was deeply involved in the United Methodist Church and was on track toward ordained ministry. The church had shaped me, formed me, and given me opportunities to grow in faith and leadership. I believed that path would define the rest of my life. But sometimes, faithfulness comes with heartbreak.

As decisions were being made within the denomination, I found myself wrestling deeply with my conscience. I loved the church and the people in it, but I could not shake the feeling that some of those decisions were causing hurt to people I loved and cared about. The weight of that realization sat heavily on my heart. After much prayer, discernment, and grief, I made the painful decision to step away. It was devastating.

All Ages Worship Brings Generations Together

All Ages Worship Brings Generations Together

At St. John’s, our All Ages Service has become a beautiful reminder that worship is strongest when generations gather together. Children, parents, grandparents, and longtime parishioners share prayers, music, and fellowship side by side, creating a space where everyone belongs and every voice matters. The service has brought new energy, deeper connections, and joyful moments of learning and faith across generations — strengthening our church family one Sunday at a time.

Join us this summer at 9:30 Sundays in the Children's Chapel room on the second floor of the education building.

Honduras Mission Trip Opportunities

Honduras Mission Trip Opportunities

The Honduras Mission Team needs your help!

We will gather immediately following the 10:30 service in the parish hall on June 7 to place medication labels on plastic bags. This is a very important step to get the bags ready for the pill counting that will occur in Honduras. Please join us for a light lunch and fellowship as we label the bags.
