Lenten Meditation Series - March 26

Lenten Meditations from Our Parish Family
Beginning on Ash Wednesday, we invite you to journey through Lent with daily meditations written by St. John’s parishioners. These reflections offer honest, thoughtful voices from within our community—meeting us right where we are in this season of prayer, repentance, and hope. Meditations will be shared by email, posted on Facebook, and available as printed weekly copies at the church. Be on the lookout, and let these shared words accompany you as we walk the Lenten road together.

Mark 10:17-31

After reading Mark 10:17-31, I realized how simple it is to put Jesus first in your life. True eternal life is granted but does mean a commitment to Jesus. In these verses a man approached Jesus and asked him what he must do to inherit eternal life. Jesus then very simply said "follow the commandments" to which the man replied, "I have never once broken one." Jesus then looked at him and realized this man's deep attachment to his wealth. Jesus then tells him to sell what he has and give to the poor and then follow me. Unfortunately, the man turns and walks away. This story is not only about being wealthy, but where our trust lies. Evidently, this man's wealth was his security. What he didn't realize is that his wealth was not going to get him into heaven. Jesus later turned to his disciples and said, "How hard it is for those who trust in their riches to enter the kingdom of God. It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a wealthy man to enter the kingdom of God." The disciples were in awe of Jesus' words. He replied to them with these words: "Without God, it is impossible but with God everything is possible." Praise be to God.
