Mawande to Serve Second Curacy at Grace, Pike Road - a message from the rector

Mawande to Serve Second Curacy at Grace, Pike Road - a message from the rector

- Tuesday, October 28, 2025

Can it really be six whole months since Mawande Mzongwana was ordained a transitional deacon and began her vibrant ministry at St John’s? During these six months we have come to enjoy her lively spirit, deep faith, and compassionate heart. We’ve seen God in her joy, her gifts, and her energy. She has touched our lives and we have grown in our love for her, Sihle, Thandie, and Kanya.

Fight the Good Fight, Finish the Race

Fight the Good Fight, Finish the Race

Monday, October 27, 2025

Three friends are looking back over their long and eventful lives and reflecting on how they would like to be remembered at their funerals. One of them says, I want my priest to say, here lies a woman who was a good wife, a loving mother, and a loyal friend. The next one says, I want the pastor to say this man was a skilled worker, a respected professional, and an accomplished leader.

And the third friend says, well, at my funeral, I want the preacher to say, look, she's moving.

What would your epitaph be?

Creative Expression for Spirituality

Creative Expression for Spirituality

Sunday School Class - Sunday, November 2, 2025

Part of Spiritual Expression is taking time to encourage ourselves to see more of who we are, what we believe God to be, and how God loves and guides us in our daily lives. You do not have to be an artist or even artistic in any way to participate in this brief introductory class. Just come with an open mind and be willing to play.

Each week will be a different example of one of the many ways to help engage your understanding of your creative expression and possibly help you connect on a deeper level to yourself and your relationship to God.

Class will meet from 9:15 until 10:15 in the Library.

Lord, Have Mercy Prayer Service

Lord, Have Mercy Prayer Service

Sunday, November 2, 2025

We are all shocked by the violence that occurred 500 yards from St John’s in early October, and we are grieving the loss of life. Our city is no stranger to violence, of course, and we need to keep the current painful events in historic perspective.
And yet, the words of God through the prophet Jeremiah challenge us to pray for the city of Montgomery – our mission field and our home. Please come to “Lord, Have Mercy," a special service of prayer at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2. We’ll pray for Montgomery. That’s all – both in silence and with written liturgy.
There will be no sermon, no time of sharing, and no political messages disguised as liturgy. Go has placed us here with a purpose, and it includes lifting up our city to God’s mercy and grace.

Journey Boats Exhibit by Camilla Armstrong

A collection of sculptural boats inspired by the work of Frances Carlile in an exhibit at Canterbury Cathedral, and handcrafted from gathered natural materials. As you engage with these works of art with an open heart and mind, these "journey boats" can carry you on a voyage of reflection and discovery, inspiring you to reflect on your own spiritual journey and the movement of God's spirit within it.
